Affordable

The proposed Culcairn Solar Farm is a utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage project being developed by CleanPeak Energy, located within the Culcairn region of New South Wales. Spanning approximately 15 hectares, the project is designed to deliver a target capacity of 8.18MWdc, with up to 4.99MWac exported to the local distribution network, supporting the transition to reliable, locally generated renewable energy.

The solar farm will utilise bifacial photovoltaic modules, mounted on single-axis trackers that follow the sun from east to west throughout the day, maximising generation efficiency. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding electricity network, enabling efficient delivery of clean energy to the region.

An integrated battery energy storage system, coupled directly with the solar infrastructure, will enhance the project’s flexibility and performance. This allows the site to store excess energy generated during the day and dispatch it when demand is highest, improving grid stability and ensuring a more consistent and dependable renewable energy supply for the local community.

Project Highlights

Benefits

For Culcairn

CleanPeak works with local subcontractors and suppliers wherever possible, and have set up a Community Benefits Fund to support local projects, events, and initiatives in Culcairn across the life of the solar farm.

For the Climate

Once fully operational, the Culcairn Solar Farm is expected to offset close to 9,500 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to powering around 1,600 Australian homes .

For the Land

The site has been carefully placed to protect environmental values, minimise native vegetation removal and respect areas of cultural sensitivity, with our Net Positive Biodiversity Action Plan, guiding  how the land is enhanced over time.

Location

The Culcairn Solar Farm is located within the Culcairn region of southern New South Wales, approximately 5km north of the township and positioned adjacent to Olympic Highway. The site is strategically located to connect into the local electricity network, enabling efficient delivery of renewable energy into the grid.

With favourable solar conditions across the region and a site layout designed to accommodate planning, environmental and operational requirements, the project is well placed to support reliable, large-scale renewable energy generation.
